One more thing to do...

It appears that I look at blogging like it's one more thing on my 'to-do' list, but I'm hoping that will change.

So, I finished the headboard, bed frame and other misc. projects I had going and am not really too proud of any.

I also tried to make a wreath with those great little glass beads, but not long after hot-glueing them to the wreath they are all starting to fall off little by little. Quite frustrating!

So, here are some pics of the projects...like I said, not the best and not exactly how I wanted, but it's a learning process!
Headboard and Bed ~ I used 2'x2' squares and covered them in fabric. The plan was also to use nail-head trim but even using a rubber mallot I could not get them to stay in. I'm thinking I went too thick on the badding. I also planned on sewing a vintage button in the center of each square, however that didn't work out either as I couldn't get a tight enough stitch to hold the button down firmly!

With the bedframe. We went platform style (being that we do not have a boxspring) with some crackling cream/blue paint and some legs for a little height (mainly so I can still store my junk under the bed!)...again not perfect, but does the trick! And, I have to thank the hubs who did all the painful constructing of this bed and many trips to home depot!

This is Bijou's side of the room. Since we share a bedroom I didn't want her side to get left out. Not much too it, but still cute I think. A nice, simple effect.

For over her changing table I simply took some paper flowers and fanned them out on one side only and then tacked them to the wall. It is actually really cute in person and still in the works as I need to get back to the store and get some more of these to fill the wall!

This is Bijou's toy kitchen area. I hung some of my favorite Bijou facial expression's and made her some wall letters! She loves, loves, loves this area!

'Unemployed'

So I have been "Unemployed" for almost a year now and have never felt more 'employed' in my life. Between raising a 2 year-old, trying to prepare for nursing school and working on diy projects, I'm busier than ever!

I have 3 projects currently in the works: 1) making a platform-style bedframe for our king bed, 2) making a fairly large upholstered headboard and 3) refinishing some old vintage frames and making them into whiteboards for my daughter's room. Oh and one more...I'm trying to learn how to crochet! Crazy how much harder it is than I thought!

I'll put some pictures up soon of the projects as well as the three fingers I've so far hammered and cut! Ouch.

First Post!

Alright, so I'm done with all the basic brew ha ha with putting this page together and ready to start spilling! Let's start with the basics first. Lost my job last November as a Corporate Event Planner (wonder why that didn't work out?) and have been receiving a very nice Unemployment check for a year. Let me sidetrack for a second...I'm getting paid to stay home with my child! How great is that!

Ok, moving on, my hubbies position was 'eliminated' however he was so loved they found him a position in sales traveling about 80% of the time. We moved in with his fabulous mom and sister (and 2 normal dogs, 1 incontinent pug, 1 vocal bird and a cat that lives on the porch.) Oh and I should mention we moved from BEAUTIFUL Bend, Oregon (300 days of sunshine a year) to a small town on the outskirts of New Orleans ( 0 days of sunshine since we've been here!)

I'm trying to get into nursing school here as well as take up photography. Trying to find stuff in a new city to do with a 2 year old and trying to get pregnant with our second beautiful child! I know what you are thinking...so am I.

So, this is where I'll come to laugh, cry, scream and share all our wonderful stories! Here are some of my most recent pics practicing with photography...
